Bay Poetics, even at 498 pages, captures only a snapshot of the Bay Area’s fecund literary landscape. Every writer is connected to at least one other writer, but no writer is connected to all. This book presents an exciting and not-too-daunting array of voices, tones, styles, and gestures. The editor, Stephanie Young, mentioned at the book’s launch that this collection is, “less anthology and more assemblage.” That said, Bay Poetics‘ cacophony is a rambunctious, daring colloquy of engaged and passionate Bay Area poets.
