Summer Reading 2014

Today’s meeting about summer reading was great! Meeting with other avid readers to talk about our favorite books and why was enlightening, exciting, and rewarding.

Summer reading decision committee

We decided to limit our initial suggestion list to Fiction and NonFiction. Here, then, friends are the lists of nominated books:

Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt

The Circle by Dave Eggers

Swamplandia by Karen Russell

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

Where did you go Bernadette?  by Maria Semple

Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Divergent by Veronica Roth

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

The Round House by Louise Erdich

Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell

Finding Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Henrietta Skloot

The World Without Us by Alan Weisman

The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert

Yet we still had to choose two from each list! While now I am tempted to read all of these,

The 2014 Summer Reads are:

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Happy Summer Reading everyone! (BTW, both of these are available in our e-book collection). Be sure to join us in the library at the beginning of next semester to have a great discussion about these two excellent reads!
